What is it?Â
A shirt I bought at a random sample sale the week I moved back to New York.Â
How’d you mend it?
I decided to try covering some coffee stains with embroidery as inspired by a Japanese mending book I have. I used a silk embroidery thread I happened to have that matched the color of the blouse well. The stitch I used was mostly the ‘lazy daisy’ stitch with a few chain stitch leaves and stems, I freehand embroidered it while (carefully) enjoying another cup of coffee. It was a quick and satisfying mend.
Why bother mending them?
I’ve always had a fondness for white silk blouses, but find it hard to find silk that feels nice. I really like the texture of the silk on this blouse and the cut. It was supposed to be worn as pajamas, but I mostly wear it with high waisted trousers as day wear. Somewhere along the way I stained it and it no longer felt like something I could wear outside, which made me sad since I still can’t find nice white silk shirts easily.
Thank you Carolyn Li-Madeo! The embroidery looks beautiful.
That’s it my friends! Please send your mends and all mending conundrums my way.
I just love the act of making a flaw into a feature! So smart and delightful!
